ROMULUS—As of April 1, 2004, Detroit Metro Airport will contract with Knight Facility Management Services, Inc. to provide janitorial services at the Smith Terminal. The Detroit News reports that the contract will save the airport about $1 million in 2004 and $6 million over a three-year period. Passengers will likely benefit from the change because the savings will be passed on to the airlines that operate in the terminal, such as Northwest and Spirit Airlines. Because the airlines are so competitive, such savings are often passed on to passengers in the form of lower airfares.
