MIDLAND After years of talking about it, Midland city council members last January finally did it. By approving a contract with Stephens Aviation Services, Inc., they put the management of Barstow Airport in private hands.
The company will provide mowing, snow removal, fueling, custodial services, property inspection and minor repairs, and staff the airport seven days a week. It will also enforce airport rules, assist users with weather and flight plans and issue notes on runway closures. The city expects to save nearly $23,000 annually from the move.
