We just read your issue cover to cover- it's amazing what we miss in the local press!
We may or may not be your typical readers. My husband is nearing retirement from a local public school, and I am an ex-college professor in fine arts and music. Both our sons are home schooled and have yet to take a standardized test. I don't teach to tests or waste my sons' precious time in hours of busy work.
We think parents have the right and responsibility to educate their children in the way that seems most appropriate for each child. That way should not interfere with the family and its activities or include unnecessary restraints or burdensome requirements by local, state, or federal government mandates.
We have done our best and raised wonderful young men who exhibit character, and we are very proud of their accomplishments. We could have used some financial help here and there, but we are rich in all the ways that count.
Keep up the good research and thanks for the free information. As I tell the boys, "information is power."
