The Mackinac Center for Public Policy is delighted to host a showing of the film "One Life" about Sir Nicholas Winton. Winton is played in the film by Anthony Hopkins.
Nicholas Winton was a British stockbroker who helped rescue 669 children, most of them Jewish, from the Nazis during World War II. His efforts were unknown for decades until researchers and a popular television program revealed his work to the world.
Mackinac Center President Emeritus Lawrence W. Reed, an economist and historian, helped publicize the story. Reed wrote the monograph "The Difference One Can Make: The Story of Nicholas Winton." Reed and his former executive assistant Kendra Shrode had the opportunity to visit with "Nicky" multiple times before he passed away in 2015. Reed and Shrode will attend and provide brief personal remarks before and after the film.
The event is $10 and includes popcorn and a drink. Attendees must RSVP to get a ticket.
