Tim Cavanaugh is Senior Editor at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy.

Prior to the Mackinac Center, Cavanaugh worked at Real Clear, the Washington Examiner, Wired, National Review, The Daily Caller, Los Angeles Times and many other publications. He is an experienced reporter, editor, teacher, salesman, public relations professional, motion-picture screenwriter, and media personality.

A native of Atlantic City, New Jersey, Cavanaugh joined the Mackinac Center in 2022. The Mackinac Center is one of the largest of 65 independent think tanks across the country that focus primarily on state-level policies that affect peoples’ freedom and quality of life.
