The Second Detroit Children’s Business Fair is now accepting applications from children ages 6-14!
Hosted by the Mackinac Center for Public Policy and Junior Achievement of SE Michigan, the Detroit Children’s Business Fair provides a safe environment for children to experience entrepreneurship. The fair is based on the Acton Children’s Business Fair model, created by Acton Academies in Texas and now spreading across the country.
The fair will take place on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at the Streets of Old Detroit in the Detroit Historic Museum. Up to 30 child-run businesses will sell their products to the public, and a panel of accomplished professionals will provide valuable feedback and award prizes based on creativity, impressive presentation and other factors.
Applications are open until April 15. Participants must develop a business and brand, create a product or service and build a marketing strategy. If offered a place at the fair, they will have the opportunity to sell to the public at the marketplace.
Children at business fairs in other states have sold products that include artwork, packaged food and beverages, accessories, stationery and candles. They also have offered services ranging from photo sessions to magic tricks.
Who may apply: Children ages 6 through 14
Application deadline: April 15, 2017
How to apply: Apply online at http://detroitchildrensbusinessfair.org/
Rules: Up to three children may submit a joint application and work together on a single business. Children are to do as much of the work as possible by themselves and interference by parents could lead to disqualification of the business.
