Dr. Sutirtha Bagchi is an Associate Professor of Economics at Villanova University where he has been a faculty member since 2014. Dr. Bagchi holds a B. Tech. in Chemical Engineering (with Honors) from the Indian Institute of Technology, an MBA from Purdue University (where he graduated as a Krannert Scholar), and an MA in Economics and a PhD in Business Economics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He has a diverse set of research interests spanning state and local public finance, political economy, tax administration, regulation, and wealth inequality.
Dr. Bagchi has published widely in many peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Public Economics, the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, Public Choice, Economics Letters, and the Journal of Industrial Economics, to name a few. He has also written for organizations like The Cato Institute and The Milken Institute, so as to reach a broader audience.
In addition to his educational qualifications noted above, Dr. Bagchi worked at Unilever India and at the management consulting firm, McKinsey & Company, for a number of years. He is also the founder of a firm, Law & Economics Consulting LLC, which provides economic consulting services to clients across a range of industries and on a variety of legal issues. He lives with his wife and daughter in Phoenixville on the outskirts of Philadelphia.
