Michigan's high level of industrial and residential development and its vital interest in protecting the Great Lakes and the state's abundant woodlands make environmental issues key in any election. What will the policy flash points be this year? How are these likely to pan out? How might Lansing lawmakers craft a winning environmental agenda in the 21st century?
On April 29, the Mackinac Center for Public Policy will host its own new Director of Science, Environment and Technology, Diane Katz, as speaker at the Center's monthly Issues and Ideas Luncheon at the Capitol. Katz came to the Mackinac Center in December after serving for nine years as a member of The Detroit News editorial board, specializing in science and the environment, telecommunications and technology, and the auto industry. Her work has won numerous awards, including top honors from the Michigan Press Association in 1994, 1996, 1997 and 1998.
