Obamacare repeal-and-replace is underway, and regardless of whether it passes or fails big, changes are coming for Michigan’s medical services and insurance industry, and the state’s social welfare system, especially Medicaid.
The fine details of any final bill are unknown, but the outlines of major components, and the policy “menus” from which federal lawmakers will choose are for the most part already well defined. These developments in Congress and the relevant federal agencies pose huge challenges for Michigan policymakers.
This event will be an opportunity to get insights from a center-right health policy expert with extensive experience in this arena. Naomi Lopez-Bauman will give an overview and answer many of the questions surrounding these momentous events.
Naomi Lopez-Bauman is an adjunct scholar at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy and the director of health care policy at the Goldwater Institute in Arizona. Her past work includes extensive research on federal and state health care programs. She served on a California Senate Bipartisan Task Force on homelessness, as special policy advisor to the State of Michigan’s Secchia Commission, and much more. She is the author of more than 100 studies and commentaries and makes frequent media appearances, including on ABC’s Politically Incorrect, PBS, CNN, CNBC, FOX News and MSNBC.
