On May 5th Michigan voters will vote on Proposal 1, a constitutional amendment and series of bills that will go into effect if the amendment is approved. A large piece of the proposal is raising the sales tax from 6 to 7 percent and dedicating more funding for road construction. There are a lot of other moving parts to this proposal, and the Mackinac Center’s James Hohman will explain them all, as well as lay out how the proposed new tax revenue will be spent and how this proposal might affect the typical Michigan household.

James M. Hohman has been researching and writing about fiscal policy for 14 years and is currently assistant director of fiscal policy at the Mackinac Center.
