The Mackinac Center for Public Policy will host Dr. Michael J. Hicks at its forthcoming Issues and Ideas Forum on March 7, 2012, to discuss his study, “The Puzzling Differences Between Michigan and Indiana in This Recession” which was released late last year.
Michigan and Indiana are neighboring states with much in common. Indiana, however, greatly outperformed Michigan economically during the Great Recession. Hicks and his colleague Kevin Kuhlman explain that this was likely a function of policy choices made by the two states.
What were those policy differences and what are the implications for public policy? Hicks will explain what he calls the “factors of influence” in each state and their roles in each states’ recent economic performance.
