MIDLAND — John Stossel, co-host of ABC’s television newsmagazine “20/20,” will speak about the dangers of socialized medicine at 12:30 p.m. on March 19 in the Palmer Commons Forum Hall at the University of Michigan. Stossel’s speech is titled “Socialized Medicine Stinks.”
Stossel, who has been with “20/20” since 1981, has been doing one-hour primetime specials since 1994, including “Are We Scaring Ourselves to Death?” which examined exaggerated fears over issues such as crime and pollution. Stossel was described as “the most consistently thought-provoking TV reporter of our time” by the Dallas Morning News. He has won 19 Emmy awards and been honored five times for excellence in consumer reporting by the National Press Club.
The event, which is sponsored by the Michigan-based Students for a Free Economy, the Young America’s Foundation, the U of M College Libertarians and the U of M Young Americans for Freedom, is free and open to the public.
