The best editorial cartoons employ artful drawings to inform, persuade, and entertain us. From King George III to President George W., cartooning has influenced the course of American politics by rendering informed judgments on the power elite. In step with Michigan’s election season, the Mackinac Center for Public Policy’s August 12 Issues & Ideas forum will examine this time-honored practice by featuring Detroit News editorial cartoonist Henry Payne. Please join us for what promises to be an informative and amusing look inside the art of editorial cartooning.
Payne, whose cartoons also are distributed to 60 other newspapers nationally by United Feature Syndicate, has won numerous awards for work judged to be both compelling and insightful. His first book, “Payne & Ink: The Cartoons and Commentary of Henry Payne, 2001-2002,” was recently released by Wayne State University Press.
