Earlier today, the Michigan Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Grand Health v. Whitmer. The case challenges Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s unprecedented use of emergency powers, which resulted in her possessing unilateral control over all state policies related to COVID-19. The Mackinac Center Legal Foundation, in conjunction with Miller Johnson, are representing three medical practices that were unable to provide necessary care and a patient who was unable to receive care under the governor’s previous orders.
Below is a statement from Patrick Wright, vice president for legal affairs at the Mackinac Center and director of the Mackinac Center Legal Foundation.
“The Michigan Supreme Court now has the opportunity to restore proper representation to the 10 million people in our state. As many of the justices' questions demonstrated, the governor cannot continue to exert unilateral and unchecked power. It is time to return to our normal constitutional system.”
Wright will be available this afternoon and evening for media inquiries and appearances.
