"The Mackinac Center is delighted that Mr. Forbes has accepted our invitationwhich has been extended to all major presidential candidatesto address issues important to Michigan voters and the nation at large," said Mackinac Center President Lawrence Reed. "We hope that throughout the 2000 campaign season, other candidates will take advantage of our offer, and that we can thereby help citizens make the best-informed choice for president in the new millennium," Reed said.
On the campaign stump, Forbes has made no secret of the fact that he favors a Social Security privatization plan that would "deliver increased retirement income to every American worker." Forbes says that with the plan he has in mind, "most of your Social Security taxes will be deposited directly into your own private account. The money belongs to you. The government can' t touch it."
Democratic candidate Bill Bradley and Republican John McCain also have expressed interest in making a policy address at Mackinac Center headquarters, according to Reed.
