Last week, Rep. Gary Glenn, R-Midland, introduced House Bill 5829 to bring Worker’s Choice to Michigan. Worker’s Choice would give workers the freedom to represent themselves in negotiations with their employers and free unions from having to provide services to nonmembers. It could also protect Michigan’s right-to-work law from lawsuits aimed at overturning it.
The Mackinac Center will host a forum to discuss this legislation in greater depth. Speakers include Rep. Glenn and Mackinac Center’s Director of Labor Policy F. Vincent Vernuccio, who has authored a study on the topic. A Michigan teacher who supports the idea of Worker’s Choice will also speak and answer questions.Lunch is free and is included with reservations. The deadline for lunch reservations is noon on Friday, Sept. 16.
