As reported by Michigan Capitol Confidential and others, last week the Michigan House zeroed-out funding for an economically foolish state program that hands over tens of millions of state taxpayer dollars to “millionaire and billionaire” Hollywood film producers.
Another week and another budget vote: Yesterday the state Senate voted on a budget that funds the program with $50 million taken from you and me and our taxpaying Michigan neighbors.
That equals about $5 from every man, woman and child in the state of Michigan. Or $20 from every family of four.
If Stephen Spielberg stopped you on the street and asked for $5 would you give it to him? Would it change your answer if he offered to film some movie scenes in this state?
I didn’t think so.
Michigan politicians should stop handing over your hard-earned money to Hollywood producers.
