MIDLAND — Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels today signed House Bill 1001, making the Hoosier state the 23rd right-to-work state in the nation and the first right-to-work state in the Manufacturing Belt.
Fiscal Policy Director Michael LaFaive and Labor Policy Director Paul Kersey, who have both researched and written about right-to-work issues, are available to discuss this development and its impact on Michigan.
“A right-to-work law is a powerful economic development tool,” LaFaive said. “I worry that without a right-to-work law of our own, Indiana will grow at Michigan’s expense.”
“The difference between Indiana and Michigan is already stark,” said Kersey. “This now makes the Hoosier state all the more attractive to companies looking to expand, and that includes companies currently in Michigan.”
