MIDLAND — Veteran television reporter Anne Schieber has joined the Mackinac Center for Public Policy as senior investigative analyst. Schieber, a reporter and anchor at WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids since 1998, has won numerous awards during her broadcast career, including a “Best Individual Reporting” honor from the Associated Press and “Journalist of the Year” from the Michigan Small Business Administration.
“Anne’s experience covering a myriad of topics, including public policy issues and government actions, will be a great asset to the Center,” said Michael D. Jahr, vice president for communications. “She is a true professional and her work is widely respected. The Center’s efforts to expose harmful public policies and hold policymakers accountable will be enhanced by her work.”
Schieber’s first assignment will be to provide coverage of the right-to-work debate taking place in Indianapolis.
Schieber has worked as a producer, reporter and anchor in Allentown, Penn., Buffalo, N.Y., and Minneapolis, in addition to Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo. She is a 1982 Villanova University graduate.
“I’ve had a high regard for the work the Mackinac Center has done over the decades,” Schieber said. “Their research is solid, and they’ve led me to many powerful stories on public policy issues over the years.
“My goal as a reporter has always been to take what is important and make it interesting, not the other way around,” Schieber said. “I look forward to investigating complex policy issues and showing how they impact people’s lives.”
Joseph G. Lehman, president of the Mackinac Center, said he was delighted to have Schieber join the team. “Anne will augment Mackinac Center research by taking our investigative reporting to a new level,” he said.
