Related to “Obamacare’s Michigan Collaborators” posted here last week, Americans for Tax Reform has created a “Comprehensive List of Tax Hikes in Obamacare.” This adds another wrinkle to the “collaborate vs. resist” discussions state lawmakers are currently having.
Specifically, collaborating with Obamacare by creating a state health insurance “exchange” undercuts lawmakers’ ability in the political realm to credibly pursue repeal, and suggests a passive acceptance of its inevitability in the policy realm – including its tax hikes.
Mackinac Center adjunct scholar John Graham explains: "The American people already know that Obamacare cannot work. It must be defeated. If your state politicians are collaborating with corporate lobbyists to establish exchanges, they are not serious about achieving this worthy goal."
Conclusion: Collaborating with Obamacare undercuts the potential for repealing it, and so also implies passive acceptance of its tax hikes.
