Where Do Your United Way Dollars Go?

Are your tax dollars and charitable donations being used to stump for a government takeover of health care?

The Deseret News has an article about how the health care debate is playing out in Utah. It mentions that “Judi Hilman, executive director of the Utah Health Policy Project,” became the de facto defender of federal reform proposals during the meeting.”

So who’s funding this group?

The Form 990 for 2008 lists, among other donors:

• United Way of Salt Lake: $34,200
• Intermountain Healthcare: $20,000
• Salt Lake County: $15,000
• Robert Wood Johnson Foundation: $285,000

You can’t do much about the RWJ Foundation, as it’s a private entity. But you may wish to reconsider that gift to United Way. And I wonder what the residents of Salt Lake County think of their tax dollars going to such an organization?
