Tony Daunt is the senior director of Workers for Opportunity at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy. Prior to this role, he was the executive director of FAIR Maps, a nonprofit advocacy group that works to ensure Michigan’s independent redistricting commission serves the interests of all Michigan residents, overseeing the successful federal lawsuit that overturned the unconstitutional racial gerrymander of Michigan’s state legislative lines.
Since graduating from Michigan State University in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in political science, Tony has had a successful career in politics and government, serving numerous roles in Lansing and Washington, DC, handling policy, communications, and logistics. In 2013, he was hired to lead the Michigan Freedom Fund, taking it from a start up to one of the leading conservative advocacy organizations in the state over the course of his nearly eight years as executive director.
He is a 2017 graduate of the Michigan Political Leadership Program and was appointed to the Michigan Board of State Canvassers in January 2021. In addition to these roles, he serves on the board of the Michigan Coalition for Open Government with fellow Mackinac Center team member Mike Reitz. In his free time, Tony enjoys golfing, camping, and spending time with family and friends.
