Create “DARTA” transit authority

Introduced by Rep. Bert Johnson (D-Highland Park)
The bill would create a new Detroit Area Regional Transportation Authority (DARTA) by merging the Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) transit system and the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART), and bound by the current labor agreements of those entities. The authority could levy property taxes with the approval of a majority of the aggregate of all votes cast in an election in the four counties. more …
